Festival of Combustion
Rivers of Steel's renowned Festival of Combustion, sponsored by United States Steel, returns to the Carrie Blast Furnaces on October 5, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., with exciting new activities, performances, and collaborations. This unique event draws thousands of visitors of all ages to celebrate industrial arts and American craftsmanship through interactive workshops, trade demonstrations, guided tours, live music, fireworks, and more. Inspired by the iron-making heritage of this National Historic Landmark, the festival showcases an expertly coordinated iron pour by Rivers of Steel’s metal arts team, alongside guest artists from around the country. Additionally, a secondary aluminum pour features scratch molds created by festival attendees!
Fall Festival: Soergel Orchards
Join Soergel's Orchards for their annual Fall Festival! Enjoy a fun-filled day with apple picking, pumpkin picking, and a variety of kids' activities for the whole family. Admission is FREE, but please note that individual activities will have their own pricing. Come celebrate the season with us and make unforgettable memories!
Whiskey Rebellion Day
In the early morning of July 16, 1794, 50 angry and armed farmers approached the residence of John Neville, to demand that he turn over the tax records for the Federal excise tax on whiskey. Gunfire was exchanged and several of the farmers were shot...one fatally. On the following day, over 500 farmers surrounded Neville's house, which was now being protected by a dozen U.S. soldiers from Fort Fayette in Pittsburgh.

Let’s get ready for the 2023 Christmas Bird Count (CBC)! Join us at Powdermill Nature Center for a workshop all about this important community science project, and help tally and identify birds as part of the Rector area count.

JANE’S ENDANGERED ANIMAL EXPERIENCE
Jane’s Endangered Animal Experience invites kids and families to experience the world like Jane Garcia, the nine-year-old protagonist of the Apple TV+ series Jane. Immersed in the world of the honeybee, visitors can climb into a replica of Jane’s high-tech pod vehicle from the show and fly it to collect pollen and evade predators.
