GLASS CENTER RECEIVES $100,000 GRANT
Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) received a $100,000 grant from the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation through its Frankenthaler Climate Initiative to support the construction of a thermal envelope for its expanded facility using new high-efficiency glass donated by Vitro Architectural Glass. This will be the first installation of this new technology in Pittsburgh.

A letter from the president of Bushy Run
The 259th anniversary of the battle of Bushy Run was held on August 6 and 7. the Bushy Run Battlefield re-enactment was a huge success with about 1600 visitors and more re-enactors than in previous years. For two days the public was given the opportunity to see a small part of their local history that occurred in the summer of 1763.
The Albany Plan of Union 1754
A full twenty-two years before the Declaration of Independence was written, Benjamin Franklin proposed the idea of a central government for the colonies. From June 19 to July 11, 1754 representatives from seven of the thirteen colonies met in Albany, New York. Their purpose was to discuss how to promote better relations between the colonies and the Native Americans and the threat presented by the French to the north of the colonies in Canada.

The Pittsburgh Glass Center announced the winner of its 2022 Ron Desmett Memorial Award for Imagination with Glass, which honors artists using glass in experimental and innovative ways. New York-based Ukrainian multimedia sculptor Inna Babaeva’s willingness to take risks and think outside the box were cited in the announcement that she will be the recipient of a $2,500 cash prize as well as studio time at PGC.

“Yes I do [skateboard] but it is important for me to say that I am not good” artist Bob Freyer told me when I asked him if he was a skater after a skate deck show at .5 gallery. That’s okay that he’s not a particularly good skater because he’s really good at making bad ass skate deck designs. Last Saturday .5 featured skate decks from a variety of artists.
Drake Well Museum to Host Annual Fall Gas Up
Saturday, September 10, Drake Well Museum and Park will host the 37th Annual Fall Gas Up, sponsored by the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society. Displays will include operating and stationary gas engines made in PA & tractors in the oil fields. The Fall Gas Up will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is included in the museum’s regular admission fees.

WESTMORELAND CULTURAL TRUST’S GREENSBURG MUSIC FEST RETURNS WITH FREE LIVE MUSIC FOR THE COMMUNITY FOR THE FOURTH YEAR
Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s Greensburg Music Fest returns for its fourth year. On Saturday, August 27, hundreds of music fans will flock to downtown Greensburg to enjoy live performances from over ten local bands on four stages. This all-ages music festival is free and lasts from 12 – 9 PM in the Helman-Ghrist parking lot and Palace Theatre.
