GLASS CENTER LAUNCHES NEW DIGITAL GUIDE

Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) launched a new, digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes Pittsburgh Glass Center accessible for either onsite or offsite visits through photo, audio, and video features offering insights into the science, art, and history of glass in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Glass Center is the first organization on the Bloomberg Connects app that is dedicated to glass art and combines both visual and performance art. Anyone who is interested can learn more on the PGC website and download the guide.

Established in 2001, Pittsburgh Glass Center is a nonprofit, public-access education center; an art gallery; a state-of-the-art glass studio; a community builder; and a hub for innovation and creativity and only one a few in the world. Anyone can take classes, explore the contemporary glass gallery, and watch live hot glass demonstrations. World-renowned glass artists come to PGC to create and teach. Now with the Bloomberg Connects app, everyone from the casually curious to the master artist can learn, create, and be inspired by glass from anywhere at any time.

Pittsburgh Glass Center’s guide complements an onsite self-guided tour of the facility and enhances that experience with additional educational audio and video content. The PGC tour on the Bloomberg Connects app is a useful way to prepare for a visit to PGC helping people understand what to expect, orienting them to the unique space, and promoting thoughtful conversation and exploration about the science, art, and history of glass.

“Bloomberg Philanthropies has been a valued partner to PGC for the last 5 years. Aside from providing ongoing marketing, programming, and fundraising advice and support, Bloomberg was instrumental in helping us create our current 10-year strategic plan focused on facilitating equity and access to the glass art community. The Bloomberg Connects app directly supports our goal to advance a more diverse, vibrant, and accessible glass art community,” said Heather McElwee, Randi & L. Van V. Dauler, Jr. Executive Director.

Bloomberg Connects offers free digital guides to over 90 cultural organizations around the world. The app platform is part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ longstanding commitment to supporting digital innovation in the arts. Bloomberg Connects makes it easy to access and engage with arts and culture from mobile devices when visiting in person, or anytime from anywhere. With dynamic content exclusive to each partner organization, the app provides a range of features including video, audio, and text; expert commentary; and way-finding maps. Follow Bloomberg Connects on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for updates on new guide launches, exhibit highlights, and more.
