Volunteer Spotlight: Molly Doherty
A question and answer with Woodville Plantation volunteer Molly Doherty. Molly is a college freshman at Kent State University.
How did you hear about Woodville? I drove by often having lived five minutes away for a long time. I looked it up and decided to come to the Volunteer Day in March when I saw it advertised.
Why did you want to volunteer at Woodville? I really love history and this was an opportunity to learn in-depth local history that was new to me.
What else would you like people to know about you? I have my black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
What does a typical volunteer shift look like for you? Opening the buildings and getting the shop and admissions ready for guests on Sunday afternoons when they come for tours of the Neville House. The guests always have interesting stories about why they came and how they found us. Some already know some of the family history. Some have lived nearby and have watched it be restored over the years.
What piques your interest about this site? This is very localized and specific to our area. I love Frick and Williamsburg but they interpret a much wider area and our base is much smaller allowing it to be more in-depth. But we still have very interesting programs on a regular basis that cover a lot more than just the house.
What are your plans for the next few years? To start nursing school, hoping to study abroad one day and graduate with a history minor.
What is the thing you cannot live without? Books! I am a big reader and I just recently started non-fiction. I now have over 500 books. I can’t imagine having none!
Tell us about your family? My dad is Australian so I have dual citizenship, as does my sister.
And a bonus fun fact? My favorite food is anything with feta!
