Harmony Society Music is Focus of Hidden Sounds Program
“Old Economy is lucky to have the musical archives of the Harmony Society,” says Sarah Buffington, Curator at Old Economy Village. “For this event visitors can view items from those archives, as well as some of the mid-19th century musical instruments played at Harmony Society concerts.”

Rising senior at Carnegie Mellon University, Ester Petukhova (b. 2000, Vologda, Russia) is selling her painting, Evidence of Survival: Slovyansk, Ukraine (A Portrait of My Uncle Who is Alive and Free), to raise funds for Save the Children, Ukraine – an organization that has been operating in Ukraine since 2014. The work is included in Artsy’s June Contemporary Art Auction

First archeological dig in three years set for Meadowcroft
This month, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, part of the Senator John Heinz History Center’s family of museums, will host a new archaeological excavation of the Rockshelter under archaeologist Dr. James Adovasio, who led the first excavation of the National Historic Landmark back in 1973.
We Are Not the Same and That’s Okay: A Day at the Three Rivers Arts Festival
Saturday, June 6, 2022, was the second day of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, back for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The weather was best described as delightful. Upper 70s and sunny, with tall buildings that provided plenty of shade and a river valley that supplied a refreshing breeze. This year, the event took place in the streets of the Cultural District in Downtown Pittsburgh, as opposed to Point State Park. I liked it better this way.
Maxo Vanka is ALIVE, and tech savvy
133 years young, the painter known for his murals at Millvale’s Saint Nicholas Croatian Church, Maxo Vanka is alive and well in 2022. He’s also hip to 2022 tech. Though he’s shed his earthly body, his soul can be felt through new works of art and his voice heard through the murals on the church’s walls. The murals, who’s messages ring as true today as they did 85 years ago, were created just before the start of Second World War.

Liz Staab grew up in Castle Shannon, PA and currently resides in Brentwood, PA with her grandmother, sister, and dog. She recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in European History.
