Carnegie Museum of Art Announces First Round of Commissions and Partnerships for the 58th Carnegie International

Carnegie Museum of Art announces five commissions slated for the 58th Carnegie International that will be realized at the museum and throughout the city of Pittsburgh in the lead-up to the opening day of the exhibition on September 24, 2022. The 58th Carnegie International follows the geopolitical imprint of the United States since 1945 to situate the “international” within our local context.

Story Book Forest has been an integral part of the Idlewild experience since its opening in 1956, featuring iconic folk characters like Mother Goose, the Old Woman Who Lives in a Shoe, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks. These roles often see the same stars fill the shoe(s) or don the bonnets year after year, but every once in a while, a golden opportunity arrives for some fresh fowl to fly in. 2022 presents such a moment.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Community Youth Scholarship Audition

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School invites children ages 5 – 9 to audition for the opportunity to receive one of up to five full scholarships for the 2022 – 2023 school year (classes begin in September 2022). Students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for scholarship funds (see below). To create as safe an environment as possible, children are required to wear masks and caregivers are requested to remain outside of the building during the audition.

Congratulations to Sophia Traczek, the winner of PCA&M's 2021-2022 Virtual Regional Competition for Poetry Out Loud. A senior at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, Ms. Traczek will represent the Pittsburgh area at Pennsylvania's Virtual State Competition in March 2022. Ms. Traczek recited “I Find no Peace” by Sir Thomas Wyatt, “Beautiful Wreckage” by W.H. Ehrhart, and “the world is about to end and my grandparents are in love” by Kara Jackson.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Theater-by-the-Grove and Music Theater will present a co-production of the beloved classic Broadway musical, “Carousel” with music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. This musical is based on Ferenc Molnar’s Play “Liliom” as adapted by Benjamin F. Glazer. Agnes de Mille created the original choreography for the Broadway production.

Zoe Zenghelis: Fields, Fragments, Fictions comes to Carnegie

Carnegie Museum of Art announces Zoe Zenghelis: Fields, Fragments, Fictions, the first solo exhibition featuring the paintings of artist and educator Zoe Zenghelis in the United States. Opening March 26 and on view through July 24, 2022, the monographic show will celebrate the interdisciplinary breadth of Zenghelis’s art practice by bringing her independent work in dialogue with her collaborative projects and teaching methods, as well as with objects from the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition will be staged in the galleries of the Heinz Architectural Center at Carnegie Museum of Art, one of the nation’s foremost institutes for the study and curation of architecture. Zenghelis together with Theodossis Issaias, Associate Curator, Heinz Architectural Center, and Hamed Khosravi, architect and educator at the Architectural Association School of Architecture have collaborated at every step of the way to select and present this important body of work.
