The New Hazlett Theater wraps up the 9th season of Community Supported Art

The New Hazlett Theater wraps up the 9th season of Community Supported Art (CSA) with Disassembly, a sci-fi video game in concert, March 17–18 and Papa, a play celebrating Asian-American heritage, April 7–8. While these productions offer vastly different experiences, both center on exploring multicultural identity and American assimilation. The CSA Series provides emerging artists in Pittsburgh with the opportunity to develop new work for the New Hazlett stage.

Easement acquired on former historic church in Deutschtown

The Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation (PHLF) are pleased to announce that they have acquired a preservation easement on the former St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reform Church, located in the Deutschtown neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s North Side. The building, which sat vacant from 2006 to 2017, was recently renovated and turned into an apartment building with 16 units, and it is now known as St. Peter’s Residences.

CONTEMPORARY CRAFT ANNOUNCES RESIDENCY WITH ARTIST & DESIGNER TERENEH IDIA

Contemporary Craft (CC) is pleased to announce a new residency with artist and designer Tereneh Idia, exploring the material culture of Black Pittsburgh – past, present and future. The residency is made possible through a generous $35,000 Creative Development Awards grant from The Heinz Endowments, with additional support from Dawn and Chris Fleischner. The residency is set to begin in April 2022.

The Princess is Right! An Interactive Game Show at the New Hazlett

The New Hazlett Theater is thrilled to premiere pop culture phenomenon Princess Jafar's interactive game show, The Princess Is Right!, on February 17. Written and performed by Princess Jafar, Pittsburgh's iconic Queer Arab cartoon princess villain, The Princess Is Right! brings Pittsburgh celebrity guests onstage to take part in a hilarious game show inspired by the classic TV series. This production is part of the Theater's 2021/22 Community Supported Art Performance Series (CSA), which provides emerging artists with the opportunity to develop new work for the New Hazlett stage. This production is not recommended for children under 16.

18th Century Medicine and Disease

Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society will be hosting a program on 18th Century Medicine and Disease on Saturday February 19th, 2022 at the Bushy Run Battlefield Visitor's Center. This will be the opening of a new display at Bushy Run about Disease and Medicine in the 18th Century. The display will open at 12:00 p.m. that day, with a presentation by two speakers at 1:00 p.m. This is a free event for Heritage Society members, and regular museum pricing for non-members.


The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society is a non-profit organization that is partnered with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society manages day-to-day operations at the battlefield as part of this partnership, hosting educational programs and tours of this important Battlefield during Pontiac's War and the development of the United States.

New Mural on Display at Carnegie Museum of Art

In April 2020, American artist Cauleen Smith (b. 1967) initiated COVID MANIFESTO, a series of incisive photographs, social media posts, and short films. In the wake of pandemic-related public safety restrictions limiting the ways in which art could be displayed and viewed, Smith took to Instagram to stage these interventions, engaging with the intersecting crises of the pandemic and social injustice through her lens of active care, radical imagination, and collective consciousness. Contending with the daily onslaught of local, national, and global events, Smith’s series presents viewers with calls to action featuring handwritten personal reflections and carefully chosen objects from the artist’s studio.
