Panel on Great Migration added to "America: Through Immigrant Eyes"
The Johnstown Area Heritage Association (JAHA) is delighted to unveil an extension to the permanent immigration exhibition on the first floor of the Heritage Discovery Center! The panel extends the exhibition's timeline to the period of 1916-1930, when African Americans first came to the Johnstown region in large numbers as part of the Great Migration.
Meadowcroft to Extend Free Admission for Kids through October
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, part of the Senator John Heinz History Center’s family of museums, will offer free admission for kids ages 17 and under throughout October, presented by Washington Auto Mall.
Visitors of all ages can throw tomahawks in the site’s 18th-century frontier area, learn to use an atlatl (a prehistoric spear-thrower) in a 16th-century Monongahela Indian Village, and explore the prehistoric Meadowcroft Rockshelter – a National Historic Landmark recognized as the oldest site of human habitation in North America.
Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Launches Online Store
Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh has launched an online store featuring more than 500 of the most popular products from the stores of its four museums—Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, The Andy Warhol Museum, and Carnegie Science Center. This is the first online store featuring products from all four museums, including more than 300 products exclusive to Carnegie Museums.
“Body Talk” Exhibition by Paige Tibbe Grand Opening of IF Boutique Naming of the Sandra Streiff Gallery
The Irma Freeman Center for Imagination (IFCI) presents the works of Paige Tibbe, exhibition open October 2, 2020 – November 15, 2020. We will have live music on opening night featuring Pittsburgh musicians. The IFCI will also be naming its back gallery in memory of Sandra Streiff, our dear friend and an extraordinary Pittsburgh artist. Her incredible shadow paintings are a fixture of the Streiff Gallery. Gallery and Boutique hours will be Tuesdays through Thursdays 12 pm to 3 pm. Fridays through Sundays 12 pm - 6 pm, or by appointment. The public is invited to this masked/socially distant exhibition reception and grand opening with plenty of space as we open the garage door and back lot for safe (masked) social intercourse.

12 Artists Recognized for Outstanding Work
Nearly 100 artists from all over the world donated their artwork for the Art on Fire Auction because they believe in our mission and want to help keep our doors open every day and make world-class glass art, excellent education and state-of-the-art resources available to all!
Heather Kanazawa: Remnants of Life on exhibit from October 7th through November 6th in the upstairs gallery.
Heather Kanazawa still remembers the way the cool, crisp blues cut through formations of trees in the woods. Or the way the ripples in the water looked on a cool spring day. In her paintings, both memory and process serve as key elements. She is able to thoroughly memorize these past memories in order to investigate them, providing descriptive imagery.
Deirdre Murphy: Threshold on exhibit from October 7th through November 6th
Deirdre Murphy’s artwork is made with the attentiveness of a scientist. She observes our natural world beyond the visible surface. Her interest lies in the interconnected qualities of art and science, specifically the micro/macro patterns that reveal our connectedness. Imagery in her artwork ranges from data visualization of ornithology charts or phosphorescent images of viruses, to cellular structures in petri dishes that morph into star clusters or light pollution maps that finally rest upon a Luna moth. Murphy’s recent pivot to virology has led to foreshadowing paintings that reflect upon our global humanity and the ties that bind us.

12 Artists from Belgium, Northern Ireland, Russia and the US Explore Immigration Issues
“The United," a new exhibition opening on October 2 at Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC), examines the complicated topic of immigration which is affecting many people closely, as members of diverse communities, as descendants of immigrants, or as immigrants themselves. The exhibition with artwork from 12 artists from Belgium, Northern Ireland, Russia and the US explores the possibilities for proactive engagement with immigration issues and offers a message of resilience, hope and resistance.
Yummy Art: History Center Virtual Program to Feature Pittsburgh "Cookie Activist” Jasmine Cho
The Senator John Heinz History Center will examine a sweeter side of portraiture as part of a virtual program, Portraits in Icing: The Intersection of Representation, Race, and Cookies, on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
Jasmine Cho is a Pittsburgh-based artist, author, and cookie activist most known for using portrait cookies to elevate representation for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She is also a Food Network Champion and the Founder of Yummyholic.

August Wilson's Ground Lecture Series: "August and Africa"
The annual lecture series was created to advance multidisciplinary perspectives on American Century Cycle, a set of 10 plays depicting decades of the 20th century African American experience, by award-winning playwright August Wilson.
Announcing the Winners 🏆 of Latrobe Art Center's annual Juried Art Exhibition
Congratulations to the nine artists in the Latrobe Art Center’s Tenth Annual Mister Fred Rogers Fine Arts Juried Exhibition who received awards! Chosen by juror Cecile Shellman, these artists' talents were recognized last night during their opening reception.

Blues Heritage Festival 2020
The HBHF typically takes place in the streets of Downtown Pittsburgh and in the theater at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, with a combination of free, community concerts and ticketed special events. Due to Covid-19, we have to keep the music flowing virtually with musicians performing in their homes, from the Mississippi to New Zealand, and NOLA to Ireland.
Gulf Building Spotlight
Once the tallest building in Pittsburgh, at 44 floors, the Gulf Building remains iconic in the city skyline.
With materials original to the day it was built, marble removed during enhancements and renovations is stored in the basement for reuse.
Pittsburgh’s public art could be likened to the city’s fingerprint. It is unique, celebratory of local voices, and a testament to its post-industrial landscape.
As public art invites everyone to interact with the creative spirit of Pittsburgh, The (New) Pittsburgh Exposition offers seven public art sites in and around the city that have helped define its civic art scene.
