Architecture, a Tool For Hope
Pittsburgh’s business community made an impact. Seeing these buildings light up gave people hope, helped people feel seen, made people feel accepted. One person posted on Facebook, “This is AMAZING!!!! Maybe next year we can get Philly and other cities/towns to do this. This brings tears to my eyes!! It’s so important in spreading awareness!!!”

Four presenters took what many of us know of as a regional conflict which we call the “French and Indian War” involving the British and French Empires, as well as several indigenous nations and confederacies, and opened our eyes to a wider world conflict.
Relive your childhood. Still drink beer.
“Yes I do [skateboard] but it is important for me to say that I am not good” artist Bob Freyer told me when I asked him if he was a skater after a skate deck show at .5 gallery. That’s okay that he’s not a particularly good skater because he’s really good at making bad ass skate deck designs. Last Saturday .5 featured skate decks from a variety of artists.
A multi-million dollar chess match
What does a chess match at the end of a gay bar bar crawl have to do with ice manufacturing, Whooley’s Market, the mob, the library, and a historical society? Well, everything of course.
Maxo Vanka is ALIVE, and tech savvy
133 years young, the painter known for his murals at Millvale’s Saint Nicholas Croatian Church, Maxo Vanka is alive and well in 2022. He’s also hip to 2022 tech. Though he’s shed his earthly body, his soul can be felt through new works of art and his voice heard through the murals on the church’s walls. The murals, who’s messages ring as true today as they did 85 years ago, were created just before the start of Second World War.

US Navy Band Sea Chanters Showcases Sailors’ Humanity
The powerful sound of the Battle Hymn of the Republic thundered through the majestic and commodious auditorium of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, as the US Navy Band Sea Chanters closed out their Pittsburgh performance on a nationwide tour. Battle Hymn of the Republic, a song popularized during the American Civil War.
Amanda Narcisi resigns from PGH Museums Board
Occasionally, when you are starting to launch a new project, you get one of those messages that lets you know, ‘hey, I’ve got a great idea’. Early 2019 Amanda Narcisi sent me one of those messages when she texted me that she was learned about a museum project I was working on and that she was interested in getting involved. I remember the instant jolt of excitement that message sent straight to my heart as I realized this thing, PGH Museums, had a chance. I received a similar sensation, yet out of panic this time, when she told me three years later-this winter, she would be resigning from PGH Museums.

The Pittsburgh Crèche, or nativity scene, is the only sanctioned replica of the crèche at Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. This 66,000 pound piece of art has been a part of Pittsburgh's history and Christmas tradition for 22 years. Now, we take you behind the scenes as we see how this three story structure is assembled and meet the people involved in making it happen.

Pittsburgh’s public art could be likened to the city’s fingerprint. It is unique, celebratory of local voices, and a testament to its post-industrial landscape.
As public art invites everyone to interact with the creative spirit of Pittsburgh, The (New) Pittsburgh Exposition offers seven public art sites in and around the city that have helped define its civic art scene.
