Meadowcroft to Offer Free Admission for Kids in September
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, part of the Senator John Heinz History Center’s family of museums, will offer free admission for kids ages 17 and under throughout September, presented by Washington Financial Bank and Alex E. Paris Contracting.
PCA&M and the Latino Community Center Residency
During multiple Artist Residency Projects implemented since March 2018, PCA&M Teaching Artist/Visual Artist Alison Zapata and Teaching Artist/Performing Artist Geña Nieves have been creating with children enrolled in the Latino Community Center’s SOY (Supporting Our Youth) Pittsburgh program.
Holiday Shopping in the Era of COVID-19: Handmade Arcade Invites Makers to Take Part in an Immersive Virtual Marketplace
Since 2004, Handmade Arcade has hosted a highly-anticipated annual in-person marketplace with last year’s winter convention bringing in over 10,000 attendees, 250 makers, and 17 hands-on maker activities. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization quickly realized that to continue to meet its mission of supporting Pittsburgh’s creative economy, they needed to pivot their successful in-person model and create a cutting-edge online event: Handmade Arcade Virtual Marketplace.

PA Museums 2020 Special Achievement Awards
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s incredible transformation of an adjacent historic Library, the first commissioned by Andrew Carnegie, into MuseumLab has received a 2020 Institutional Award of Merit from PA Museums. At more than 35 years young, this celebrated museum is well-known for providing meaningful, engaging experiences for elementary school aged children and younger, and their families. The addition of MuseumLab to its campus delivers exceptional museum programming for older kids through three exhibit areas, two learning labs, programming space, a host of commissioned artwork, and multiple partner organizations focused on serving children.

This summer has been unlike any of us have ever experienced in our lifetime, but it is also one that has given me hope: hope that our community will continue to work together to ensure that our families and neighbors remain healthy; hope as people around the world demand equality and stand against systemic racism; and hope that the art and conversations that the August Wilson African American Cultural Center has planned inspires meaningful discussions around these issues and brings you moments of joy in the weeks and months ahead.
