BoxHeart presents Alice Raymond: Earth on exhibit from November 18th, 2020 through January 1st, 2021 in the upstairs gallery.
Like a walk among the mountains, it is for us to spot the signs of the landscape, to remain vigilant in the direction of the wind, to know how to follow the rhythm of the days despite our impatience for the dream panorama that the climb promises us. Recently, a global fracture forced us to take a closer look. A wall for some, a chasm for others, the fact remains that an obstacle must be crossed, and that it offers us the opportunity to look in other directions.
BoxHeart presents Gavin Benjamin: Heads of State on exhibit from November 18th, 2020 through January 1st, 2021 in the main gallery.
Artist Gavin Benjamin combines his original analog photography and appropriated images with collage, paint, varnish, and other materials like Swarovski crystals to create a mash-up of couture art. He investigates the intersection of culture, media, politics, fashion, and design, addressing questions that (continue to) confront a man of color in America today.
Every Moment Mattered... the life of Cassin Young, Captain, USN Navy (Deceased)
The presentation is about a story Bob MacPherson has been working on for six years, the Life story of Captain Cassin Young, USN, Medal of Honor Awardee.
Cassin Young was a career Navy submariner but was remembered more for the two events that happened in December 1941 and November 1942. His life story reflected the transition of the US Navy from the age where battleships were king to the dramatic days of the first year of World War 2 where the Navy had to learn to fight without most of them.
Handmade Arcade announces official list of makers for its dynamic new Virtual Marketplace
Since 2004, Handmade Arcade's highly-anticipated annual in-person winter convention has connected over 200 makers with more than 10,000 attendees every year, showcasing a curated marketplace of unique handmade goods along with opportunities to learn new skills in its hands-on activity area. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization quickly realized that to continue to meet its mission of supporting Pittsburgh's creative economy, they needed to pivot its successful in-person model to a new online model: Handmade Arcade Virtual Marketplace. Jurors reviewed hundreds of applications from Pittsburgh and beyond, handpicking over 130 top makers to ensure that all products in the market are well-made and represent a diverse range of handmade products. Beginning on November 28 until December 6, consumers will be able to shop the marketplace for high-quality handcrafted goods across 15 categories.
