Meadowcroft Set to Open Season on May 6th
Just an hour’s drive from Pittsburgh, Meadowcroft is a National Historic Landmark in Avella, Washington County, Pa. Visitors of all ages can explore the Rockshelter, an archaeological wonder where the region’s earliest inhabitants dwelled more than 19,000 years ago.
History Center announces second annual "Civic Season"
The Senator John Heinz History Center – the Smithsonian’s home in Pittsburgh – is joining fellow leading civic and history organizations across the United States this month to launch the second annual Civic Season, in partnership with the Made By Us coalition.
First archeological dig in three years set for Meadowcroft
This month, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, part of the Senator John Heinz History Center’s family of museums, will host a new archaeological excavation of the Rockshelter under archaeologist Dr. James Adovasio, who led the first excavation of the National Historic Landmark back in 1973.
Meadowcroft Rockshelter opens May 1st
