Description:

Anderson Manor, formerly known as the James Anderson House and presently serving as the Anderson Manor Family Hospice and Palliative Care facility, is nestled at 1423 Liverpool Street in the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Constructed circa 1830, with subsequent additions in 1905, this historic residence holds a significant place in local history.

Colonel James Anderson, the notable resident of this house, played a pivotal role in the education and cultural enrichment of the community. He generously opened his personal library, comprising 400 volumes, to working boys every Saturday night, thereby fostering a love for learning among the youth. Additionally, Anderson's efforts were instrumental in establishing the area's first library.

Recognizing its historical importance, the house was rightfully added to the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks in 1989.
