Happy birthday Abe! The Lincoln Highway Experience is celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s birthday with free admission on Monday, February 22, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., with the last visitor admitted at 3 p.m.
The museum usually offers free admission on February 12, Lincoln’s actual birth date, to celebrate America’s sixteenth president and the namesake of the historic coast-to-coast Lincoln Highway.
“We had another program on February 12 and couldn’t accommodate the free admission visitors and the program visitors at the same time,” said Lauren Koker, executive director of the museum. “So we decided to move our February free admission day to President’s Day.”
The changed date will also give those who are off on President’s Day a chance to take advantage of the free admission offer.
The Lincoln Highway Experience is the largest museum in America dedicated to sharing the story of the first coast-to-coast highway. Located on the Lincoln Highway between Latrobe and Ligonier, PA in the beautiful Laurel Highlands, it highlights the story of the Lincoln Highway—a project funded by private citizens to encourage automobile travel and tourism at the dawn of the automobile age, that changed transportation history forever. The museum features a video and transportation, automobile, and roadside tourism artifacts and their stories. All visitors end their visit at the museum’s meticulously restored 1938 diner, where they can enjoy pie and coffee.
In accordance with health guidelines during the covid-19 pandemic, it is recommended that visitors wear a mask, but not required.
