About the post office building:
The former United States Post Office in Punxsutawney stands as a significant historic landmark in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. This iconic post office building, designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James Knox Taylor, was constructed between 1912 and 1914.
Adding to its architectural significance, the building showcases Neo-Classical Revival style, characterized by its two-story brick structure with a raised basement. Notable features include a majestic Ionic order, octastyle limestone portico adorned with a coffered ceiling and a single-step parapet gable.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, this building served as the local post office until 1998, contributing to its historical importance and cultural heritage.
