Elroy Elementary School
Location:
3129 Elroy Ave, Brentwood, PA 15227
Description:
Constructed shortly after World War I in 1920–1921, the building served generations of elementary students in the Brentwood Borough School District, reflecting the early twentieth‑century expansion of public education facilities in suburban Pittsburgh as communities grew after the industrial boom. Its brick façade, traditional schoolhouse proportions, and orderly arrangement of windows and entrances exemplify the era’s pragmatic yet dignified approach to educational architecture, emphasizing durability and civic presence in neighborhood settings. Over many decades, the school was maintained and periodically updated, serving as both an academic institution and a community landmark before plans were developed to close and replace it with a modern consolidated facility alongside Moore Elementary School.
