Description:
Boggs Avenue Elementary School is a stately Renaissance-style building located in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Designed by architect Sydney F. Heckert and completed in 1925, the school served the local community for decades before closing in 1985. Its architectural character is marked by symmetrical brickwork, stone trim, and decorative detailing typical of early 20th-century institutional design.
After its closure, the building was used for administrative purposes by the school district and later sold to a private developer in 2010 with plans for residential conversion. Perched near the intersection of Boggs and Southern Avenues, the former school is situated within a quiet, tree-lined area of Mount Washington, offering proximity to transit lines, community green spaces, and historic neighborhoods like Chatham Village. Though no longer active as a school, the building remains a significant and recognizable landmark in the area.
