State’s tallest Christmas tree and Rudolph in 4D coming to Kennywood’s Holiday Lights
Annual holiday spectacular opens Nov. 22 with fireworks and new immersive movie
The ninth season of Kennywood’s Holiday Lights spectacular begins on Friday, November 22 and continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through December 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Holiday Lights will also be open nightly December 26 through 30.
Visitors will find an array of dazzling displays draped across America’s Finest Traditional Amusement Park, highlighted by the 100-foot Christmas tree, tallest in Pennsylvania. Take rides on family favorites like the Kangaroo, Merry Go Round and Noah’s Ark, plus the Kiddieland and Thomas Town sections of Kennywood, all dressed in their holiday best. And new this holiday season, guests can immerse themselves in the story from the beloved television classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer like never before in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4D.
Using the same stop-motion animation as the original, viewers will be able to join Rudolph, Hermey the Elf and their friends on this epic adventure, and experience the sights, smells and sensations on-screen from the comfort of Kennywood’s 4D Theater. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4D will show continuously during Holiday Lights and is included with park admission.
Non-riders will find plenty to enjoy, from a massive model train display set up in the Penny Arcade to a nightly reading of ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas featuring a special Pittsburgh celebrity each evening. Other shows include Sounds of the Holidays with local performance groups and the Holiday Lights display every 30 minutes at the park’s Lagoon area. For the best Holiday Lights value, don’t miss Dinner with Santa, an early-access event including a buffet meal, private audience with Saint Nick himself, and the night’s first screenings of Rudolph 4D.
This year, Kennywood is happy to partner with 412 Food Rescue to host a personal care item drive for the food rescue program’s recipients, who often struggle to access basic needs beyond food. Visitors to Holiday Lights who bring a donation of items such as toothpaste, soap or diapers during the first three weekends of Holiday Lights (Nov. 22 – Dec. 8) will receive a coupon good for $6 off admission for up to four people.
