sidewall New Curatorship 2020 - BOOM Concepts

For the 2020-2021 exhibition season,  BOOM Concepts is thrilled to be guest programming the public art project known as sidewall. BOOM Concepts co-founder DS Kinsel will lead the project by curating the season and selecting artists.  Each artist will be provided a rotation between 30-60 days.  This public art project is the perfect way for audiences and artists to safely engage each other during the COVID-19 crisis.  Art appreciators are encouraged to safely visit the exhibition during a social distance walk, run, or bike ride in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Bloomfield.  

Pittsburgh native artist, Jameelah Platt. Jameelah will be displaying “We Bloom in September”, a piece the artists says is “Told through gestural figurative painting, mark making and vibrant colors, memory is reflected through dichotomies of being bright, muted, fragmented, well-defined, everlasting and fleeting”

About Jameelah Platt: Jameelah Platt is a Pittsburgh native, and has attended the University of Art in Philadelphia PA. Some of her artist influences include Kerry James Marshall, Vanessa German and Kara Walker. These artists have a history of creating works that are figurative as well as narrative based.  As an artist who constructs narratives, Jameelah often considers her works to be projected as a book, creating visual narratives for the audience to decode. She often experiments with color and texture in relation to the current content she has chosen to work with in. Working with themes of nostalgia, intimacy, comfort, community and fear creates a language that is reflective, reminding the audience to investigate these themes introspectively.
