Bushy Run Museum Manager Matt Adams Introduces Himself in Letter
My name is Matthew Adams and I was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania. My interest in history probably stems from the yearly Adams Family pilgrimage to Gettysburg. That interest certainly grew when my friend's older brother became a park ranger at Gettysburg, giving me a behind-the-scenes view of how history comes to life for the public.
I graduated from Penn State Altoona's Security and Risk Analysis program- just a fancy way of saying "cybersecurity". Admittedly, I spent most of my time sneaking myself into English and History classes with sympathetic professors. The university had mercy on me and gave me a second, liberal arts degree at graduation. You can guess which one I've been using!
I've been working in non-profits since graduation. Prior to Bushy Run, I had been working in a management role at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona. While my primary role has always been in administration, I have some experience with history research. I've written and lectured a bit on American labor history between the Civil War and World War I. Quite a ways away from pre-revolutionary American battlefields, but I'm excited to be here and all the more motivated by everyone's generosity, enthusiasm, and commanding knowledge at Bushy Run Battlefield.
Please stop by the Museum so we can meet in person.
Thanks,
Matt
