Veema Akama-Makia is an award-winning vocalist

Join us as we celebrate Black History Month with this special performance by Cameroonian-American mezzo-soprano Veena Akama-Makia. Akama-Makia is an award-winning vocalist who has studied and performed in both America and abroad. A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, she also holds a Masters in Performance and Literature from the famed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Accompanying Ms. Akama-Makia is Rochester-based Evan Ritter. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Ritter is an award-winning pianist and composer from Dallas, Texas. A passionate chamber musician, Ritter is currently a masters student at the Eastman School of Music.

This performance will include works by Florence Price, Antonín Dvořák, Margaret Bonds, and Francesco Santoliquido.
