Please join us for an evening of drinks and conversation to celebrate Teal Fitzpatrick's EACH STATION, A PORTAL on Thursday May 11 from 4-7pm at Scratch&Co
Teal Fitzpatrick is a fiber artist living and working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, creating non-traditional, hand-stitched, punch-needle rug art. Particularly interested in the intersection of what is aesthetically pleasing and what is emotionally startling, current works explore the impact of color, (dis)orientation within space, and archetypal and ancestral imagery.
EACH STATION, A PORTAL
Pittsburgh - Montana - Los Angeles - Pittsburgh.
Last summer, on a two-week train loop to the West Coast and back, I sat in a narrow seat and started working on rugs. I took inspiration from scenes outside the window and from station stops along the way. After returning home, the images reemerged as visitations: dreams, flashbulb memories, renderings that appeared in new rug art. Each of these squares is now another window of sorts, a glimpse of moments that haunt and travel with me long after stepping off the train.
