Spirits on the Summit Walking Tour

  • Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site (map)

Join us for a candlelit tour of the Allegheny Portage Railroad and hear about the darker side of life and death on the Portage Railroad. Learn about the hazards that workers and travelers of the 1830s and 1840s faced as they crossed the Allegheny Mountains.

These family-friendly tours will be held at:

6:00; 6:20; 6:40; 7:00; 7:20; 7:40; 8:00; 8:20; & 8:40.

Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities the tour will be entirely outside. Space for the 50-minute tours is limited to 10 people per tour. Please arrive on time for your scheduled tour. Due to the size restraint on the tours, no exceptions will be made to accommodate visitors on other tour times other than the reserved time.

To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, masks and social distancing are encouraged. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 814-886-6150. Tours will be held rain or shine.

In the event of inclement weather, the event may be cancelled. Check the local media outlets and/or the park website for details.
