Quarantine and the Self: A Photographic Journey

Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media Class

July 22, 2020 - August 12, 2020

In this class students will examine how the quarantine has affected their life on multiple levels, including their immediate environment and living space, but also their relationships with others and most importantly themselves. There will be a prompt of topics to focus on shooting for each week’s class. In the virtual classroom we will present these photos to each other (students will be asked to share them with the group via a Google drive likely), and we will have a discussion/critique surrounding them. Students will be asked to discuss shooting techniques used, stylistic approach, as well as the deeper meaning of what they chose to capture and why. They will also be encouraged to share any written thoughts they may have on what they shot. Writing about the images is encouraged, but not necessary.

Students will need a digital or analog camera for this class. (Film processing will not be available at PCA&M at this time).

This class will be held online, via Zoom.
