In this class, you will learn gel plate monoprinting and relief printing techniques, and how to combine the two without using a press. Monoprinting is the process of applying paint or ink to a surface and producing one unique print. Unlike working with a hard surface, the gel plate is pliable, which produces a dense transfer of ink with light hand pressure. We will experiment with using stencils and masks, including found objects and plants. For relief printing, you will carve a soft block, which can be rolled up with ink and hand-printed. Your relief block can be printed over a monotype to produce a rich, multicolored print. A combination of online, short instructional videos, and live online demos and discussions will make for an exciting and engaging experience.
