We are one of Butler County's 4-H clubs, that has a main focus on Fiber arts. (in fact we are the only Fiber Arts 4-H club in Pennsylvania) We will be demonstrating the prep of wool from sheared to garment. There are many steps in the process from cleaning the fleece by washing it different ways, combing or carding it to align the fiber, then spinning it to yarn and finally using the yarn to create a garment.
In colonial America, pre-made fabric was expensive and often not available at all. So creating textiles was a necessity for many 18th-century Americans and was a labor-intensive process. During the Revolution, when Americans could not get English goods, weaving became a necessity and a patriotic duty. Dozens of weaving "manufactories" opened to serve the American market.
