Living History Weekend

June 3-4 (noon to 4 p.m.)

Interpreters and staff at the Fort Pitt Museum will host a special two-day Living History Weekend focusing on how American Indians and early settlers lived in 18th-century Pittsburgh. Shideezhi Emarthla, a citizen of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, will discuss interactions between the historic tribes based in Western Pa. and lead a cooking demonstration. The museum will ceremoniously fire its replica 18th-century British six-pounder cannon at select times each day, weather pending. Admission to the outdoor activities at American Indian Living History Weekend is free, but regular admission applies to enter the Fort Pitt Museum and access its exhibitions.

This summer at Point State Park, the Fort Pitt Museum – part of the Smithsonian-affiliated Heinz History Center’s family of museums – will host several public programs that bring the history of Pittsburgh to life right where the city began.
