Liberty Poles and the Whiskey Rebellion (Laid Back History)

As the week of July 6th officially being Whiskey Rebellion Week in Pennsylvania, Clay brings you this special episode of Laid Back History, live from Liberty Pole Spirits in Washington, Pa.

What is a Liberty Pole?  How were they used?  Why is it called Liberty Pole Spirits?  All those questions and  more will be answered as Clay tells you the history of liberty poles and the stories of them being raised during the Whiskey Rebellion.

Clay will go live at facebook.com/lemoynehouse/live at 6:30pm

What is "Laid Back History?"

With our normal interactions with the public curtailed by the need for social distancing, we’ve had to reimagine what is arguably the most important part of our mission— providing educational programming to the public.  While we cannot currently invite people into our historic sites or conduct educational programs out in the community, we remain committed to continuing our engagement with our audience.

With that in mind, we’ve been more active in providing educational materials on social media.  We’ve also been working with the Observer-Reporter to publish “Looking Back” articles on a weekly basis.  And now we’re excited to present our new online series—Laid Back History.  Every Tuesday at 7:00pm, our executive director, Clay Kilgore, is live on the Historical Society’s Facebook page telling a story from this region's past.

Why “Laid Back History?”  Well, mainly because he comes to you live from his home recliner and nobody’s going to care how you’ll look in yours.

So, if you want to enjoy stories of Southwestern Pennslvania's past, join Clay every Tuesday at 7:00pm as he shares the history and heritage of this region, one short story at time.

You can find the Washington County Historical Society’s Facebook page at facebook.com/lemoynehouse/live or by clicking the link below.
