Opening Reception: IHS Portfolio Club: Views from Paradise

It is peak season for students to be sending in applications to colleges and internship opportunities. In “Greetings from IHS: PORTFOLIO” we get a glimpse. A notion. An expression of senior art students formed by teachers Beth Porter and Jen Rinkevich at Indiana High School.  Our exhibition fills the long gallery wall with the very definition of a portfolio.  A set of pictures, photos and writing samples as examples for entering competitions or applying for work.  Some of these students will be using their art to do just that, getting into “next level” educational experiences.  For others this show is a milepost before continuing a journey that is informed by their art skills. Hopefully they will continue seeing and making art for their whole lives.  That set me thinking.

A portfolio can also be a combination of owned investments.  What a wonderful way to think about these beautiful expressions.  Investments. Certainly investments in their lives, but also in OUR lives as well. An investment in our community.  They subtitle their show: VIEWS FROM PARADISE. They have invested their capability to see something, and in response, to make a piece that has never been made before.  Some of these you may acquire, and some are needed as portfolio pieces by the student artists.  Either way, this portfolio will enrich us all.
