The Senator John Heinz History Center’s popular Hometown-Homegrown™ food festival, presented in partnership with GoodTaste! Pittsburgh®, will return on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visitors can sample a delicious assortment of foods from more than 40 local vendors representing the best of the ‘Burgh, from long-time Pittsburgh staples like Isaly’s, Wholey’s Market, and 5 Generation Bakers to emerging local businesses such as Pittsburgh Pickle and All Things Empanada.
As part of the event, visitors can enjoy an exciting slate of cooking demonstrations with the city’s finest culinary experts, along with artisan talks by local specialty vendors.
Cooking Demonstrations – Weisbrod Kitchen Classroom (third floor):
10:30 a.m.: Chris Fennimore of QED Cooks will demonstrate how to make multi-use dough
Noon: “The Cheese Queen” Megan McGinnis will show visitors how to create the perfect charcuterie board for the holidays
Artisan Talks – Campbell Gallery (fourth floor):
11 a.m.: Armful of Flowers
1 p.m.: Oakmont Olive Oil Company
Visitors can also explore six floors of History Center exhibitions, including Heinz and Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation, which examine the region’s rich food history.
All Hometown-Homegrown activities, food samples, and History Center exhibitions are included with regular admission and free for History Center members. Admission to the museum is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors (age 62+), and $9 for students.
All kids aged 17 and under receive FREE admission thanks to community partner UPMC.
The event is part of the History Center’s Food & Fitness initiative, which is presented by UPMC Health Plan.
