Join a park ranger for an exploration of the historic trace of the Allegheny Portage Railroad. On this downhill, strenuous hike over extremely uneven terrain you will discover the challenges faced by 19th century engineers whose work revolutionized travel westward. This is a long, strenuous, and difficult hike. If you are not used to hiking over long distances with steep inclines and declines, this hike will be a challenge for you! Either hiking boots or sturdy shoes are required. Please bring water and a light snack. The hike takes about 5 hours and park staff will meet hikers at the end of the trail to shuttle them back to the Visitor Center.
