A 20th Anniversary Exhibition Featuring Pittsburgh Glass Artists

Pittsburgh Glass Center cultivates a vibrant community of glass artists in the Pittsburgh region.

Since opening in 2001, more than 50 artists have moved to Pittsburgh to live and make their art at Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC). They join an existing community of professional and aspiring glass artists that teach and take classes at PGC each year. Together they make up a vibrant community of glass artists in the Pittsburgh region.

“PGC has become a destination and a place where artists come when they finish school and they're looking for a community to relocate with a strong glass family, the resources for making their glass art and a place that’s affordable. Pittsburgh is that place. It is also a place where master artists stand shoulder to shoulder with people just learning to blow glass. That happens in our building all the time. We have famous, professional artists working on incredibly complex concepts or technical challenges next to kids from Garfield who are here for an after-school program, learning how to blow glass and communicate and work as a team,” said PGC Executive Director Heather McElwee.

Over 70 of these artists have come together to share their art and stories and to celebrate Pittsburgh Glass Center’s 20th anniversary in a new exhibition called “Gathered Locally.”

The exhibition opens at 10:00am on Friday, October 1 and runs through January 18, 2022.
