Happy New Year! The winter '23 Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District is free and open to everyone and features more than 15 Crawl Stops. Expect brand-new gallery exhibitions, public art, and a salsa Crawl After Dark experience to keep the party going until midnight.

This Crawl is dedicated to the art and legacy of the late Natiq Jalil, founder of the Coloured Section Black Artists’ Collective, and will feature a special celebration presented by the Collective including visual art, spoken word, and music by DJ SMI.

Join The Coloured Section Black Artists’ Collective as they celebrate the art and legacy of their founder, Natiq Jalil. Enjoy a night of visual art and spoken word while the sounds of afrobeat by DJ SMI fill the air.


Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop: An Exploration of DJing featuring DJ Big Phill, DJ Yamez, and DJ Femi. Hosted by DJ Blakk Steel

Come along for a fantastic ride through the decades as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop! Guided by DJ Blakk Steel, DJ Big Phill, DJ Yamez, and DJ Femi, we’ll groove through the 1970s, where hip hop music started, and jam our way to the current hip hop hits! Don’t miss this non-stop party.


New Gallery Exhibitions & Public Art Installation

The 2023 winter Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District includes five featured exhibits making their Crawl debut at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Galleries: the #notwhite collective 2016-2022 at SPACE Gallery, Rising Voices 2: The Bennett Prize for Women Figurative Realist Painters at 937 Liberty Gallery,  Intensional Particle and Mold 1 Installation at Wood Street Galleries, The Crest of the Ridge: Paintings by Rick Landesberg at 707 Penn Gallery and Explorations of Color 2.0 by Jo-Anne Bates at 820 Liberty Gallery.

Additional Crawl stops to be enjoyed featuring Cultural District partners are A Night of Art at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center including a talk and tour of Emmai Alaquiva's interactive, mixed-media exhibition, OPTICVOICES: Mama’s Boys; the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Night Market in Market Square; performances, local vendors, and more at Urban Pathways Charter School; artwork curated by 9-year-old artist Kaylee will be on display at Adda Coffee and Tea House; and the brand-new Food, Drink — and Zines!exhibit available at Love, Pittsburgh.

Ready to Salsa? With Jeff and Colleen Shirey leading a half hour Salsa dance class beginning promptly at 9:30, we’ll all be ready at 10 pm for Noël Quintana’s 10-piece orchestra and DJ Carlton Leeper as we dance the night away to the electrifying sounds of Salsa!
