Celebrate Independence Day in Talley Cavey

  • Depreciation Lands Museum (map)

Celebrate the birthday of our young Nation with the Villagers of Talley Cavey!

As was customary, a villager will read the Declaration of Independence at the close of the afternoon as we salute the birth of our new nation.

The Depreciation Lands were established as a way to compensate the soldiers of Pennsylvania for their service in the War for Independence. It is only fitting that we should gather, in this year of 1792, to salute their dedication to our young nation.

Bring your picnic and share this afternoon of celebration with us!

As always, there will be the savory scent of woodsmoke from the cooking in the Armstong's log house, you can watch the blacksmith work his magic with iron, and attend class in the one-room school. You can even engage in the quiet task of carding wool for spinning.

Demonstrations and hands-on opportunities always abound for visitors of all ages
