Artist Talk w/ Mikael Owunna

Multi-media artist, Mikael Owunna, will present a virtual studio visit exploring the applications of ultraviolet light and fluorescent paints to craft cosmic portraits that transfigure Black bodies from sites of death and state violence into vessels of eternal life. Owunna's artistic practice explores the intersections of visual media with engineering, optics, Blackness, and African cosmologies. His work seeks to elucidate an emancipatory vision of possibility that pushes Black people beyond all boundaries, restrictions, and frontiers. Owunna is currently an artist-in-residence at the Pittsburgh Glass Center where he is experimenting with fluorescence in the medium of glass. FREE VIRTUAL EVENT.
