Please join us on Saturday, March 28 for an anniversary hike of the Summit Level to commemorate the opening of the Allegheny Portage Railroad 186 years ago on March 18, 1834. We will be hiking from the observation deck at the Head of Incline 6 along the Summit Level to Old 22 in Summitville at the former site of the Summit Hotel. Participants will learn about the “levels” of the Portage, from construction through operation, and also learn about what Summitville was like in the days of the Portage. The hike will be approximately 2.5-3 miles round trip. The hike will be held rain or shine. Due to the time of year, please prepare for the possibility of snow, mud and wet ground. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a snack, if you like. Reservations are required.
