Allegheny Commons Public Art Tour

Join Morton Brown, a local public art aficionado, for a walking tour of one of our most striking City parks, exploring its history, public art, and amenities.

Morton has many interesting, first-hand stories to share regarding the restoration of “Lady Fame” atop the Civil War monument overlooking Lake Elizabeth, the Maine monument, the fountain near Cedar Avenue, and more!

Additionally, this tour will venture into Allegheny Center to visit sculptures by Syl Damianos, Ned Kahn and others, while learning about the history of the Museum Lab, the Children’s Museum, Federal Galley, and the exciting rebirth of the Center itself!

Please join us for this one-of-a-kind tour of one of Pittsburgh’s living treasures.

TOUR HOST BIO:

Morton Brown is a visual artist (painter) and an art consultant/project manager operating in Pittsburgh, PA. His areas of expertise include managing conservation of outdoor works of art; administering artist selection and project management; and facilitating art-making processes with artists, architects, and communities.

Originally from Arkansas, Morton completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Central Arkansas in 1996. While he earned his Master of Fine Arts in painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Morton also worked as an artist with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program before moving to Pittsburgh in 2001.

From 2003-2007, Morton helped create and administer the Sprout Public Art Program, and from 2009-2015, he served as the Public Art Manager of the City of Pittsburgh, which included planning new projects, maintenance of the City’s art collection, and staffing the City’s Art Commission to approve proposals for new permanent structures on City property.
