Description:

The Scottdale Historic District, designated as a national historic district, is situated in Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Encompassing 242 contributing buildings and one contributing structure, this district spans the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Scottdale. Constructed between approximately 1853 and 1950, these properties represent a diverse array of architectural styles, including Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival, and serve various purposes such as residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial.

Noteworthy structures within the district include the Duraloy Technologies complex, Uptegraff Manufacturing Company, Scottsdale Savings and Trust (established in 1907), DeMuth Flowers (built in 1887), Loucks Hardware Company (circa 1880), Cossels Food Mart (erected in 1914), Frick Coke Company offices (dating back to 1887 and 1906), Broadway Drug Store (constructed around 1935), Calvin United Presbyterian Church (erected in 1898), First Baptist Church (established in 1906), the former high school (built circa 1920), A.K. Stauffer House (constructed circa 1880), E.H. Reid House (built between 1905-1910), and a Lustron house from 1950.

The inclusion of the Scottdale Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 underscores its cultural and architectural significance.
