Description:

Photo Antiquities Museum of Photographic History was founded in 1993 to preserve and present the history of photography. Through the use of original photographic images and the equipment used to capture them, the museum strives to achieve its mission. Guided tours, educational programming and collaboration with non-profit organizations and museum members contribute to the continued growth and development of the museum.

With the introduction of the Daguerreotype in 1839, it immediately became apparent that this process of photographic imaging was worthy of preserving. As the science of photography progressed, Ambrotypes, Tintypes and early paper processes all aided in recording history. As our ability evolved to capture images through the use of film, motion pictures, Polaroid, video and digital media, the requirement to preserve these images and equipment has become greater. With technological advances, many stored digital images are no longer printed and can be deleted electronically forever. Preservation of historic images and equipment becomes more important as we move to the next chapter in the evolution of photography.
