Description:

The Pennsylvania Railroad Freight Station, also known as the Chartiers Valley Railway Freight Station, stands as a historic landmark in Washington, Pennsylvania. Its significance led to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places on July 21, 1995. Recognized by the Washington County History & Landmarks Foundation as a historic public landmark, this station has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1871 for the Chartiers Valley Railroad. Over the years, it changed hands as various railroads merged, eventually ending up under the ownership of Penn Central. Despite Penn Central's bankruptcy in 1970, the station retained its charm and was eventually sold to a private individual instead of being transferred to Conrail in 1976 along with the rest of Penn Central's assets.
