Description:

The Church of the Ascension is an historic Anglican church situated at the corner of Ellsworth Avenue and Neville Street in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1889, the current stone church building was designed by architect William Halsey Wood and completed in 1898, with its formal dedication occurring on December 30 of that year. Over the years the church has been a prominent place of worship and community life, known for its rich liturgical tradition and contributions to local Anglican practice. In recognition of its architectural and cultural significance, the structure was added to the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation list of historic landmarks in 1971. Today the Church of the Ascension remains an active parish within the Anglican Church in North America, continuing more than a century of service in Pittsburgh.
