Location:

2601 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Description:

Originally constructed as St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, this historic structure in Pittsburgh’s Hill District was designed by Elise Mercur, one of the city’s earliest professional female architects. The building stands as the only surviving example of her architectural work, making it a rare and significant piece of the city’s built heritage. Architecturally, the church is notable for its octagonal cupola that crowns the roofline, giving it a distinct and memorable silhouette. Additional features include triangular dormers that evoke the Romanesque stylistic influences popular in ecclesiastical design of the late 19th century.

Now serving as the Kodesh Church of Immanuel, the building continues to function as an active place of worship and community service, linking Pittsburgh’s architectural past with its living present.
