Description:

Baxter High School, located at 925 Brushton Avenue in the Homewood North neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a historic school building constructed in 1908. Designed by the architectural firm Kiehnel, Elliott & Chalfont (later known as Kiehnel & Elliott), the building showcases the Chicago School style of architecture and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 for its architectural and historical significance.

Originally serving as a traditional public high school, the building has undergone a transformation and now houses the Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center (SAC), an alternative education school within the Pittsburgh Public Schools system. Since 2004, SAC has served students in grades 6 through 12 who benefit from a non-traditional academic setting, offering tailored support and a restorative approach to learning. The school day runs from 7:40 AM to 2:40 PM, and the main office can be reached at (412) 529‑7860.

The school’s mission is to empower students to rekindle their academic pursuits, discover their unique potential, and become lifelong learners and responsible members of society. Its vision emphasizes helping all students become successful, confident, and compassionate individuals ready to excel in all aspects of life. Baxter High School’s long history, striking architectural presence, and continued role in supporting Pittsburgh youth make it a notable institution in the city’s educational landscape.
