University Museum at IUP Press Release Announcing Current Socially Distanced Exhibit open until November 20
The University Museum at IUP is proud to present an exhibition featuring paintings and sculpture from its permanent collection.
Items that will be shown will include the sculpture Josephine by renowned Ukrainian artist Alexander Archipenko, who during his career used new materials and new techniques in his work often breaking with conventions of the time. Additionally, pottery from Native American artist Maria Montoya Poveka Martinez (San Ildefonso Pueblo) known for her black-on-black ceramic vessels will be on display. Her work marks a crucial point in the extensive history of Pueblo pottery. Recently restored painting Foggy Morning by prominent local artist Louise Pershing and the painting Goodrich Silos by artist Frank Herbert Mason will also on exhibit. Mason’s extensive research of the painting techniques of the Old Masters, manifested a profound impact on his own work.
This exhibit is open now until November 20, 2020. There is no opening reception. To help stop the spread of COVID-19, face coverings are required in all university buildings. The exhibit has been designed and installed to help promote social distancing.
The University Museum is located on the first floor of Sutton Hall. The University Museum welcomes visitors during the following hours:
Tuesday through Friday: 2:00–5:00 p.m.
The Museum is closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and university holidays.
