The Seven Year’s War, sometimes called the French & Indian War or the War for Empire, is considered the first global conflict, since battles between France and England were fought in Europe, North American and the Caribbean. But according to Crytzer, the interactions and battles in western Pennsylvania had a strong American component.
“Many of the influential players in the western Pennsylvanian conflicts had never been to Europe” notes Crytzer. “These players had goals shaped more by provincial interests than by the global strategies of the European powers they represented.”
Crytzer is uniquely qualified to discuss these provincial interests having written six books about this time period. His latest book, is "The Kittanning Raid: Making War in America's Peaceable Kingdom." Crytzer teaches history at Robert Morris University and is the host of the cable television series "Battlefield Pennsylvania" on PCN. He is the winner of the Donald S. Kelly and Donna J. McKee Awards for Outstanding Scholarship and Service in the fields of History.
This one-hour seminar is sponsored by Washington’s Trail 1753, a non-profit focused on educating the public on the importance and impact of George Washington’s 1753 mission to western Pennsylvania. A mission that led to the outbreak of the French & Indian War, and shaped Washington’s future as an American leader. The presentation will be recorded and made available at the website WashingtonsTrail.org.
