Letter From August Wilson Center President

Dear AWAACC Community,

Sistas, how y’all feel? Brothas, y’all alright? Erykah Badu’s classic check-in is my sentiment today, as we evaluate our current state of being and paths forward together. I hope that you and your loved ones are well.

At the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, we are about to embark on a year of programming celebrating the 15th anniversary of the opening of our facility at 980 Liberty Avenue. We are also planning for strength and sustainability in the next 15 years and beyond.

As I reflect on the division in morals and beliefs amongst the populace in this country, as evidenced during this year’s election, and consider the uncertain impacts on our future, it reinforces the importance of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center’s mission, programming, and purpose in our local and national community. We have collectively made our Center a place of meaningful connection and reflection – a celebration of who we are and what we stand for. You have an important role in the future of the Center. My team and I hope you will join us in ensuring the Center continues to thrive as a place where Black art and culture is created, supported, and showcased.

In the coming weeks, we will announce upcoming events and workshops, unveil some highly anticipated projects, and offer ways to get more involved in all that we do at the Center. At times like this, we are proud to offer a place to gather for art, education, empowerment, and strategizing for a better tomorrow.

Please support the AWAACC on Giving Tuesday (December 3) and bring your families to AWCommunity Day: Holiday Edition on December 14. As always, AWCommunity Day is FREE for the entire family to enjoy arts activities, vendors, photos with Mr. & Mrs. Santa, and more.

Finally, I want to personally invite you to offer your thoughts, feedback, and hopes for the future in our 3-minute survey. Now, more than ever, we want to hear what makes the Center special to you.
