The Johnston Children’s Museum is delighted to let you know that as of this week the Heritage Discovery Center/Johnstown Children’s Museum will resume Sunday opening hours of noon-5:00 pm! So beginning May 2, the HDC/JCM hours are as follows:

  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 am-5:00 pm

  • Sunday: noon-5:00 pm

They continue their commitment to keeping museum visitors safe — especially in the children’s museum, which is a high-touch zone. But thanks to generous donors, they’ve been able to make modifications that make it possible to safely re-open the Coal Mine and Slide, one of the museum’s most popular play areas! An air purifier in the enclosed area of the coal mine will constantly filter the air, and the “coal” at the bottom of the slide has been temporarily replaced with an easy-to-clean crash mat. The Coal Mine and Slide will re-open on May 2. Click on the button below for more COVID-related information specific to the children’s museum, including slight changes to their scheduling protocol for visitation and cleaning.

COVID safety precautions at the Johnstown Children’s Museum

Masks and social distancing are still required at all our museums.

And while the Heritage Discovery Center/Johnstown Children’s Museum elevator is currently still out of order, work is underway and we expect it to be repaired in time for the summer visiting season.
