GOATS RETURN TO FRICK PARK

A herd of goats from Allegheny GoatScape will make its debut in the Clayton Hill area of Frick Park on Friday August 5th at 10:15 AM to resume their duties for a fifth year as they assist the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy with its ongoing ecological restoration work.

Goats have traditionally been used to manage the growth of invasive plant species, particularly in the forests of the western states that are prone to wildfires, and to manage grazing lands or rights-of-way for utilities companies.

The goats will continue eating invasive species on Clayton Hill, including Bush Honeysuckle, Oriental Bittersweet, Stiltgrass, and Mile-a-Minute. This will be their first of two visits to Clayton Hill this summer. After this month-long stint, the goats will return September 29 through October 10, at which point they will have eaten through enough vegetation to allow the Parks Conservancy to re-plant the area with native trees and shrubs this fall.
