Earth Day programs announced by Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has announced a full schedule of free ‘Earth Month’ activities throughout April. The free programs and events will encourage Pittsburghers to get outdoors, immerse themselves in nature, and do their part to leave the environment better than they found it.

This year’s festivities, presented by Green Mountain Energy, will offer all Pittsburghers an opportunity to celebrate and honor local nature. In-person environmental stewardship events will be held throughout the city, including tree plantings and group cleanups. Additionally, the Parks Conservancy will offer free guided hikes, fitness classes, and family-friendly activities.

Earth Day events on April 22 will include a ‘plant walk’ in McKinley Park and children's activities in Schenley Plaza, including kite making, a bird scavenger hunt, and more.

According to Camila Rivera-Tinsley, Director of Education and the Frick Environmental Center, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Earth Month provides the non-profit with an exciting opportunity to connect all Pittsburghers to local nature in a unique and versatile way.

“In years past, the Parks Conservancy used to celebrate Earth Day during a single celebration in
Frick Park,” said Rivera-Tinsley. “After hearing from nature lovers and park visitors, we realized
we needed to expand our Earth Day offerings beyond Frick Park. We are thrilled to connect with
new park friends throughout the month of April and celebrate the importance of honoring and
protecting our planet.”
