Clearly New: Monmade Designs for 2020

PITTSBURGH, PA - November 12, 2019 - Clearly New: Monmade Designs for 2020, the fourth annual Monmade exhibition — opening February 7, 2020 at the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s Hodge Gallery — showcases regionally made and manufactured products. It debuts Monmade’s refreshed catalog featuring standardized designs balancing form, function, and sustainability. As Monmade continues to celebrate innovative and authentic design from Southwest Pennsylvania designers, artists, and craftspeople, it also deepens its commitment to social, economic, and environmental impact. In 2020, Monmade ignites unique and collaborative partnerships that improve the productivity, beauty, and enduring quality of the built environment in Pittsburgh and beyond.

“The collection for Cleary New truly embodies the growing triple bottom line focus of Monmade. We’re offering conscientious consumers more products that do good while looking great," said Adam Kenney, Director of the Craft Business Accelerator at Bridgeway Capital.

A free opening reception will be held on Friday, February 7 from 6 - 9pm at Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC.)

PGC + Monmade

PGC began working with Monmade in 2016 to pave the way for individual glass artists in our community. Now over 10 glass artists along with nearly 100 other creative entrepreneurs in the community can be found at www.monmade.org.

“An important part of our mission is to cultivate, nurture and support diverse and passionate glass artists and expand opportunities for them to make and exhibit their work in Pittsburgh and beyond. Our partnership with Monmade has been invaluable. It is an important resource for our artists that provides them with business insight, advice and mentorship about managing their own enterprises from marketing to finances,” said PGC Executive Director Heather McElwee.

Pittsburgh Glass Center continues to produce Penn+Fairmount, its first line of glass tableware and lighting in partnership with Monmade. The collection designed and created by local artist Jason Forck includes pitchers, cups, vases and bowls in four silhouettes and eight translucent colors in addition to pendant lights. It can be purchased at PGC or online at pennfairmount.com.

The CBA provides producers with better access to elements of business success: space, capital, peers, markets, guidance, and workforce. Monmade is a CBA initiative focused on driving demand for producer products, and creating a peer group for the exchange of best practices and encouragement of project collaboration.
